OSCAR Subsidy
Help with childcare costs
The OSCAR Subsidy is government funding to help families pay for before school, after school, and holiday care. Many families qualify — even working families.
Who can get it?
You may qualify if:
You are the main caregiver of a school-age child under 14 years old
Your child is enrolled at school in New Zealand
You are working, studying, or in approved training
You are a night-shift worker, or seriously ill or disabled
Your family income is below the threshold (see table below)
Your child must attend the programme for at least 3 hours per week to qualify.
How much can you get?
The amount depends on your weekly family income. Rates are per child — families with 2 or more children can qualify at higher income levels.
| Weekly Family Income | Term Time per week | School Holidays per week |
|---|---|---|
| Under $1,131 | Up to $134.40 | Up to $336.00 |
| $1,131 – $2,059 | Up to $107.20 | Up to $268.00 |
| $2,060 – $2,231 | Up to $75.00 | Up to $187.50 |
| $2,232 – $2,403 | Up to $41.80 | Up to $104.50 |
| $2,404+ | No subsidy | No subsidy |
